Music In Context: Coming Out, Ready Or Not

December 8th 1982, around 300 souls gather in Deptford at the Albany Hall for what was to be the largest gay benefit concert up to that point. GAYN records were raising funds for the Lesbian Line and London Gay Switchboard and the whole concert was recorded and pressed to vinyl album called “Coming Out – Ready or Not.”

Today the most recognisable name on the line up would be Tom Robinson who performed an incredibly moving rendition of “Glad To Be Gay” with the accompaniment of all the other musicians to close out the concert. A running theme of the album was tongue in cheek song titles which bring a smile to your face including “Patriarchal Sparkle” and “Advertisements for Heterosexuality.”
