Sophia Thakur is an award-winning spoken-word artist, author and performance poet. Currently in year 2 of her partnership with MINI, Sophia is their global BIG LOVE ambassador focusing on MINI’s 3 pillars; people, planet, progress. Sophia was also the Youth Creator and Educator Ambassador for Nike Jordan’s Jumpman 23 Women’s squad and worked on a series of activities to empower communities. Sophia was announced as GUAP’s Writer of the Year in 2023.
The spoken word artist climbed onto the stage at the age of 16 with a refreshing and intimate take on traditional poetry, captivating a room full of career professionals. Since then, she has pushed the boundaries of poetry to inspire varied audiences around the world, from the Glastonbury stage to the Tedx Talks stage, from Jazz Cafe, Omeara, Union Chapel, and Barbican to countless mainstream TV
and radio stations. In 2023, Sophia performed at her two sold-out headline shows (St Pancras and The Lower Third) which led to this year’s Valentines ‘Love Languages’ show at London’s Bush Hall which also sold out.
Sophia performed at The Poet’s Revival presented by LionHeart at the Royal Albert Hall in May alongside George the Poet, Kae Tempest, Suli Breaks and other incredible featured artists. Sophia’s powerful messages on mental health, diversity, politics, self-expression, empowerment, women and wellbeing has led to participation at events organised by Google, Accenture, Nike, The Guardian, The Royal Family, Channel 4, BBC, Viacom and the Liberal Democrat and Labour party. Partnerships include Sweaty Betty, Unilever, Tiffany & Co., Vodafone, Calvin Klein, Bumble, many of whom she has continued to work with.
Superheroes written by Sophia (Merky Books, 2021) included 50 inspiring stories of secret strength about British icons and went straight to the bestseller list after launching. Her poetry collection ‘Wearing My Mother’s Heart’ (Walker, 2022) reflects on family, love, heartbreak, grief, faith, mental health and activism while ‘Somebody Give This Heart a Pen’ (Walker, 2019) takes you on an intimate journey through self-discovery. Sophia’s books have been publicly supported by Accenture, The Bookseller, MTV, London Times Magazine, Stylist, Google, GUAP and Stomrzy’s Merky team.
