London-based Portuguese singer-songwriter and producer Raquel Martins is a free-spirited artist. Since moving to the UK at the age of 17, she’s been leaving her mark on the local scene with her unique blend of Latin-infused Alt-soul. Leaving her home country at such a young age has led Raquel to start contemplating her own identity, and how she relates to her environment – themes which are at the core of her songwriting.
Finding the sweet spot between electronic and organic, rationality and chaos, her sound and production constantly travel whilst being firmly rooted in her love for Latin music, her distinctive raspy and vulnerable voice gluing it all together.
After working for many years as a session and touring musician for many established artists like Amaarae, Biig Piig, Rina Sawayama, Mabel or Poppy Ajudha, she released two EPs (2021 and 2023) catching the attention of tastemakers, radios, and fellow artists globally, notably Gilles Peterson, KCRW, Jamie Cullum. BBC Introducing, BBC 1, Line Of Best Fit, Clash, and more.
Raquel is currently finishing producing her debut album, a deeply vulnerable and intimate narrative journey searching for the meaning of home
